新冠变异毒株奥密克戎在上海爆发。尽管奥密克戎的严重性远不及过去的德尔塔等变种，但上海依然采取了严格的“清零”措施，封锁城市，禁止居民外出，引来民生哀怨。在一些美国观察人士看来，上海的抗疫行动不仅是为了压制病毒，更是被中国当局加上了一层政治运动的色彩。

目前身处上海的《经济学人》驻华记者唐·韦恩兰德（Don Weinland）在推特上描述了他的生活现状。他表示自己居住的宾馆已经没有饮用水，网上的送水上门服务也已经暂停。但同时，他发现中国官媒却在表扬政府对此轮疫情的有效管控。

“很难不让人觉得，这里的2千5百万人成了某种灾难性政治实验的一部分。” 他在一条推文中写道。“官媒为自己喝彩的同时，居民们在受苦。”

自封城以来，社交媒体上，许多上海人对于严格禁足、不稳定的食品供应或缺乏食品、匆忙设立的隔离中心里糟糕的卫生条件和人员配备不足表示不满和沮丧。

芝加哥大学政治学教授杨大利在推特上表示，居民们的反应是上海市政府过激抗疫措施的结果。

他写道：“上海的专家们和大多数公众明白，对接种疫苗的人来说，奥密克戎感染的严重性很轻。在这种情况下，封城和将感染者强迫隔离在恶劣的环境下，导致的反抗并不令人惊讶。”

It appears Shanghai is on track to have more covid infections than Wuhan did in 2020. Whereas there was little societal resistance to the lockdown once it was imposed in Wuhan, resistance in Shanghai is palpable now. The absolute majority of Shanghai residents are vaccinated.

杨大利则分析称，中央的介入意味着上海疫情已不再是一场地方危机，而是被添加了一层更大的政治寓意。

美国外交关系协会全球卫生高级研究员黄严忠认为，中国对待上海疫情的方式将是中国对待全国疫情方式的指示标。

“社交媒体上正在流传（中国）副总理孙春兰在上海的讲话，” 他写道。“那就意味着中国直到疫情结束前都将持续执行‘清零’（解读：不开放）政策。”

近日，中国社交媒体上广传一些视频和消息，指上海当局强行把检测呈阳性的婴幼儿与父母分开隔离。一段视频画面显示，大批婴幼儿被放置在一个大厅内，每张小床上挤着多名婴幼儿，一个出生不久的婴儿几乎被床单盖住了脸，另一个约1岁多的幼儿站在那里哭泣。

和2020年的武汉疫情一样，中国官方在控制疫情的同时，也在控制着有关疫情信息的流通。一些反映居民生活现状和困难的报道在发表后很快被删除。
